A New Year A New Season

Hi Everyone

In this blog post I wanted to outline the general plan for the 2024 season. Some hopes for the year ahead and some issues we face.

The plans for the 2024 season

In 2024 I am aiming to run 6 events across the year (dates listed below). All the events except the last one in December will be singles player events and the December event will be a doubles event as a fun day for end of year and season close.

Now I want to highlight and stress that no one is expected to play in all of these events! I know that that may not be physically or financially possible for everyone in our little group. With that said there will be 6 events so everyone has plenty of chances to play across the year and I will push to expand the group with new players of all ability’s so all 6 events across the year will meet the minimum number of players needed to run.

With all of these events I will be running a 1k singles event and a 2k singles event at the same time. The 1k singles events are geared towards the newer players and more casual players. The 2k events will be for those players who want to play closer to a tournament setting but still with a relaxed casual feel. Good food will be a Important part of the day still.

Dates are as follows

  • February 10th- 1k and 2k Singles

  • April 13th- 1k and 2k Singles

  • June 22nd- 1k and 2k Singles

  • August 17th- 1k and 2k Singles

  • October 19th- 1k and 2k Singles

  • December 14th- Winter Doubles

Prices for the Days will be £30PP for the Singles Event, £20PP for the Doubles Event.

The Hopes for this Season

While looking at other events across the Uk i feel like we have a opportunity this year to do some truly great things within the hobby. With my goal of good fair games and fresh cooked food rolled into a friendly community driven competition i hope we grow our regular player base by introducing new players into the game and or bring in veteran players to help us all grow and learn as Hobbyist and players.

I also am hoping that with new players it brings larger fields so more opportunity to play different people every event.

Issues we face this season

Running these events come with many challenges most of them are logistical and are my issue to solve. But as a group we have some physical and social issues that we all will need to be aware of going into the 2024 season. Some of the steps i will be taking to mitigate these, alongside some requests for the community in helping me bring these issues to a minimum are below.

Issue 1- Table Terrain & Mats

This has been a concern of mine since the start of organising these events back in August. While i will say i am grateful to everyone who brought terrain for the days we have done so far (and will need to bring going forward still). As a gaming group we need to start building a collection of our own, so if for some reason people are away and we are unable to get hold of there terrain set, we have enough to be able to still do the events across the year.  Secondly we will need to increase the number of sets as our group grows and the player base expands so we can all play on the days set out. We can currently put 8 tables together with enough terrain to provide a fair game, and a mat for gaming on from the community players we have currently. I would like to try and have D6 Games (The Group) have 2-4 sets by the end of year. I have not worked out exactly how i will/can get that fully funded but i have some ideas on this and will produce a full separate blog on the ways i intend to go about tackling this issue.

Issue 2- 3D Printing, Conversions and Counts as!!

With new players we run into the chances of more and more people using 3D printed Armies. This is fine and will be allowed in all of our events in 2024 as some people cannot afford to buy full army’s at GW prices and have done the math and a 3D printer works out better for them in the long term. With that said we will have a full set of rules for 3D printed, conversions and counts as models to ensure everything is on the same scale and can clearly be identified. This will be part of the new player pack i will type out and linked on to the main website.

Issue 3- Scenery Rules + Table Layouts

A similar idea with this with the mixture of new players and limited terrain (for now) we need to establish rules for tables and scenery. We will have a mix of competitive table layouts and narrative table layouts for a while. So tables terrain sets will be predetermined with regards to looks and major features. These then will be photoed and uploaded to the website with a little description of how each bit of scenery plays. All players will be expected to play the table as they find it and this will be highlighted in the new player pack.

Issue 4- Player Conduct

With new players of varying skills hopefully joining a ever growing group we are going to come across a variety of differences in player experience. This can lead to all sorts of situations so alongside asking everyone to play nice and get along i will write a players conduct guide. This will outline your responsibility’s as a player in regards to behaviour and playing ethics for the day. I will also outline your responsibilities with regards to looking after and helping newer players and your responsibilities to maintaining the integrity of the day by self policing and making sure all players adhere to what has been set out by myself for the day.

You can see Reece wondering where the 3rd baneblade is. And you can see john wondering why he didn’t bring the 3rd bane blade.
